Over the past three months the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division has focused on combating the gang activity in Castroville. During this investigation, nine people have been arrested for various charges which include illegal possession of a firearm, possessing, transporting, and distributing illegal narcotics. The initial portion of the investigation culminated on 9/12/19, when the Investigations Division with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team served search warrants on Poole Street and Blevins Way Castroville, CA. The months long investigation into the criminal activity of 42-year-old Miguel Vargas, from Castroville lead to the seizure of 6 pounds of methamphetamine, over 4 pounds of heroin, three handguns and over $12,000. Vargas was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail on several narcotics, firearms and gang related charges.
