Investigation Into Johnny Joe Mallobox Jr.

The Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division has become aware of a case that involved one of our own employees as a suspect in an alleged sexual assault. We conducted the investigation and made contact with Johnny Joe Mallobox Jr., 27, of Monterey. Mallobox was a recruit trainee and currently attending the police academy.

The incident occurred in mid-April of this year and was not reported until late July. At the time of the incident, he was not an employee of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. The crime was reported by the victim after he was hired.

When Sheriff’s Detectives learned of the incident, Mallobox was interviewed. Based on that interview and other facts of the case Mallobox was booked into the Monterey County Jail on charges of forced oral copulation and kidnapping. Mallobox’s bail has been set at $200,000.00.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office takes our oath seriously to protect all people in our communities, even if it means we have to arrest one of our own. Fortunately, we were able to terminate the employment with this individual before he could interact with the public in an official capacity.

Anyone with information about Mallobox or any other
potential victims are asked to call Detective Rosy Silva at 831-755-3818 or Detective Sergeant Bryan Hoskins at 831-755-3773.
