Monterey County Jail In-Person Visiting Procedure

SCHEDULING A VISIT:  

1- Schedule an appointment at https://montereysheriff.org/detention/jailvisitor/

Note: All scheduled visiting reservations must be made at least 1-day prior to the appointment date. If a same day appointment is made, we will automatically cancel the appointment to make the time slot available for a walk-in appointment.
Note: Visiting availability can be viewed on the website by selecting a visiting room.
Note: All visiting time slots are in 30-minute time periods. If you need more time, book additional appointments.
Note: Select “In Person” (type of visit box).
Note: If you book multiple in-person visits, please allow yourself sufficient time to complete the procedures mentioned below for all visits.

WALK-IN NON-APPOINTMENTS

2-  To initiate a walk-in appointment:

a. Verify a vacant time slot is available by reviewing the appointment calendar.
b. Check-in at the jail lobby at least 30-minutes prior to the vacant time slot to reserve your appointment.
c. Please wait 15-30 minutes to meet with your client.
Note: Appointments are granted based on time/room availability.

SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS

3- To initiate a scheduled appointment:

a. Call the jail (831-784-5949 Jail Lobby) 30-minutes prior to your scheduled appointment start time.
b. Tell the lobby Corrections Specialist (CS) your visitation details.
c. Check-in at the jail lobby 15-minutes prior to your appointment start time.
Note: At minimum, you will be required to show a valid identification card.

4- You will be required to provide documentation showing you are fully vaccinated for Covid-19 or received a negative Covid test within 72-hours of the visit, have your temperature taken, answer a Covid symptoms questionnaire, and wear a N95 mask throughout the duration of your visit.
5- The Lobby CS will guide you to a stand-by staging area prior to being escorted into the facility.

Block Visit: Central Control Sallyport.
Main Jail: Old Lobby.
Women’s Section: 101-Door.
Note: A visiting deputy will meet you at the staging area and escort you to your assigned visiting room.

6- During your visit, if possible, the attorney and client shall sit at opposite ends of the table (Lengthwise).
7- If an emergency occurs in the visiting room, press the red duress button to activate the alarm, or pick up the phone in the visiting room to report the emergency.
8- At the conclusion of your visit, use the following to officially end your visit:

a. Block Visit: Press the call button located next to the room entry/exit door.
b. Main Jail: Use the visiting room phone.
c. Women’s Section: Use the visiting room phone.

9- A visiting deputy will meet you at the attorney visiting room and guide you out of the facility the same way you entered the facility.
